Hex Sign Care

Protecting Your Hex Sign

There are a few steps you can take to extend the life of your hex sign.

How can I protect and care for my hex sign?

The paint from the screen printed design applied to the signs is sufficient to protect the front side of the wood backing. When diplaying your hex sign where it will be exposed to the elements, you might want to consider giving it some additional protection. The back and edge can be sealed with outdoor paint or clear coat such as exterior oil based paint, clear varnish or polyurethane. This can be applied with a brush or sprayed on. Applying with a brush provides a thicker coating quicker but requires extra care to avoid getting the sealant on the front of the hex sign due to over drip or bleeding under the sign when laying flat. If you spray it you will get thinner coats but there is less of a risk of getting anything on the front because you can just lay it on a flat surface while you spray it. Using a clear coat one the front of the hex sign is NOT recommended as the coating can yellow over time and effect the look of the sign.

Though these signs are very durable and designed for outdoor use, protecting them can signifigantly extend their life and your enjoyment.
